Art Jewelry: Margaux Lange’s Plastic Body Series

Margaux Lange’s Plastic Body Series art jewelry collection utilizes salvaged Barbie doll parts in combination with sterling silver and pigmented resins. The series is a result of Lange’s desire to re-purpose mass produced materials into handmade, wearable art. It is meant to examine and celebrate her own as well as pop culture’s relationship with the icon known simply as: Barbie.

Smile, dears..

  1. I love that you posted this because I have seen a few of these pieces before and found them really interesting, but I had not seen all of the ones that you posted. She made so many! Poor Barbie. You called it wearable art jewelry and I agree with you on that, though it would definitely turn a lot of heads. :)

  2. I too love these pieces for their inventiveness of an object that is so widely known and reinterpiting that image into a new experience that gives the viewer a sense of the everyday image of the standardized human being through a new lense. Her patterns of repeating generic forms seem to take on a new personification.

  3. Margaux Lange's ability to create such beautiful repetition with the repeatedly lined up barbie arms is very innovative and exciting to the eye. Her first piece kind of bothers me simply because I just like the rest of the female population loved my barbies and would never have hurt them when they were in my life but the rest of the pieces I thoroughly enjoy!

  4. I think these are great! Especially the one with ken and barbies breast! I love that Margaux took something that we all remember when we were little girls and made them into wearable art. All women love jewelry and reminding us of our childhood is genius!
